O`Young in Brazil Ready for WTCC Debut

China`s best touring and sports car driver Darryl O’Young arrived in Brazil yesterday to prepare for his debut World Tour Car Championship (WTCC) race this coming Sunday, March 7, at the Autodromo Internacional de Curitiba, Brazil.

“I have spent the past week in the UK with my team, Bamboo Engineering. I put good hours on the teams simulator and spent a day testing in a front wheel drive car at Brands Hatch. I feel very good ahead of Brazil and I can't wait to attack the circuit with the No.20 Chevrolet Lacetti and push to learn as quickly as possible!” The LKM-sponsored Hong Kong driver is set to become the first Chinese ever to compete in a full-season FIA World Championship and the WTCC.

This will be the fifth time the 3.7km circuit has hosted the WTCC. The championship visited Curitiba for the first time in July 2006 and a crowd of 34,000 attended the races. From 2007 the Brazilian event was moved to March and given the honour of opening the season. In 2008, the attendance was even larger with 45,000 spectators. Last year SEAT’s Muller and Tarquini managed to win and replicate the previous year’s good results.

O’Young believes the 2008-spec Lacetti is strong enough to win the independents title. “The Lacetti has a proven track record in the WTCC and although the Chevrolet manufacturer team competes with the Cruze, I am confident that our car has what it takes to fight for the independents title. I imagine that it will be tough in the opening rounds of the season for me, but I am here to fight and will be driving hard and looking to constantly improve." said the 2-time Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion.

LKM and A-Ha Coffee are the major forces behind Darryl’s pursuit of success in the World Touring Car Championship, with additional team support coming from Chevrolet.
