Tan wins first race!

Singaporean race driver, Yuey Tan brought home his Dorr McElrea Racing car on the top step of the podium, bringing the team their first category win of the season.

“It was really a great feeling. I knew that I had to work my way up the order after a pretty ordinary qualifying session though things worked out well for us.”

Starting 4th in category, Tan spent the first few laps of the race behind Francis Tjia, Huang and Edigio Perfetti though a mistake from Perfetti allowed Tan to move up into 3rd. For several more laps, Tan and Tjia started to chase down Huang after a brilliant start. Though tyres seemed to get the better of the ART Motorsport car, as both Tjia and Tan passed him in a space of three laps.

“Huang is a tough competitor but I think he had a problem with the car. His tyres were also worked pretty hard in the first half of the race so that would’ve not helped him much.”

For the last three laps of the race, it was Tjia in the lead with Tan hot on his rear bumper. With a small mistake from Tjia, Tan capitalised on it while going downhill on a long left sweeper on the inside with Tjia also having to nurse his tyres through the last few laps.

“Was great to go racing with Francis in the way we did. He also gives fellow drivers good racing room and we all came back happy after a good race.”

After Tan’s first category win in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, he was asked what next for the Singaporean race ace?

“There are many more cars ahead of us so getting quicker and being more consistent is a never ending quest. The Porsche Carrera Cup is a fantastic field of awesome drivers like Rodolfo, Ho-Pin, Sawa San and many others so there’s much more to improve on.”
