Dorr McElrea Racing renamed to Dorr Havelock Racing in Asia!

The 2014 season has seen the Dorr McElrea Racing team renamed Havelock Racing. After 5 successful season with the McElrea Racing Team name, the team has made the decision to rebrand for future operations in Asia.

Team manager, Kenneth Yeo commented on the situation. “It’s a rebranding exercise that was on the table at the beginning of the 2013 season but we didn’t have quite enough time. Now we are going to be doing this just before 2014! Though be rest assured that nothing has changed within the operation of the team. The engineers are still from McElrea Racing, and Yuey Tan is still the race driver for the car. With our big involvement in other facets of motorsport under the Havelock banner, it was a move that makes sense for the Asian market.

The Havelock brand was first seen in Singapore at the end of 2010, as it embarked on a host of motorsport projects, including running Singapore’s National Kart series, the Singapore Karting Championship as well as being one of the five bidders for Singapore’s Motorsport Hub in Changi. The firm has also previously worked with setting up race team operations over the previous few seasons, though currently only run Yuey Tan in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.

The origins of the Havelock Racing brand is also something of interest, with its first office being on the famous Havelock Road, Tiong Bahru in Singapore.

“It’s a special area for the families behind the racing team,” commented Ken Yeo. “The offices that are used for the racing team have been amongst Yuey’s family for three generations so carrying the name in International Motorsport means something to all of us.”
