Yuey Tan: Excited to drive the all new 991!

Singaporean racing driver, Yuey Tan, is days away from driving the all new 991 Carrera Cup car from Porsche.

“It’s a very exciting day for everyone at the Havelock Racing Team,” said Tan, “Since making my Porsche Carrera Cup debut in 2008, we have always worked with the Porsche 997 so to have a new car in our midst is something very special. Porsche are world renowned for making fantastic racing cars and the 991 is no exception.”

Porsche released its last Carrera Cup car in 2006 with the 997 edition, drivers using this car for the last eight seasons with the new 991 being released in alignment with Porsche’s road production cars.

“The new 991 is something special; this is for sure,” continued Tan. “There have been some major improvements including increased aerodynamic efficiency, a longer wheel base and the new car is also a little wider, making for a faster all rounded racing car. The motor has not changed too much from the last car, which has been proven over a long time and has not followed the technological steps for the road car. Well, not yet!”

The Porsche 991 first made its worldwide debut in the Porsche Supercup during the 2013 season, though they have been quite a few upgrades and modifications for the 2014 car, released in Porsche Carrera Cup’s throughout the world. The tyre construction of the sidewalls from Michelin have also been improved, increasing stiffness to better equip the 991 with his performance.

“It’s going to be a challenge to get the know the car and we’ll be looking to understand things as fast as possible. The engineers and mechanics are working hard right now at Sepang to understand it and get things right, running simulations on how the car is going to be on circuit. The car is definitely going to be quicker, we just need to understand it and for me, learn how to drive it.”

Team engineers and mechanics were at Sepang International Circuit from March 3rd till today receiving training from Porsche Germany and Cosworth specialists, gearing up for the first day of a four day test for all teams and drivers.

Watch the all new Porsche 991 GT3 Cup Car make its PCCA debut, at pre-season testing starting on March 7 at the Sepang International Circuit.
