Tan wraps up pre-season test with the 991

Porsche Carrera Cup Asia driver, Yuey Tan wrapped up his four day pre-season test with some fast lap times that has put him in a good position heading into the opening round of the 2014 season.
The Dorr Havelock Racing Team and Yuey Tan headed up to the Sepang International Circuit a week ago to prepare the car for the first test of the race season. Having a big influence on adaptability to the new car, the race team ran many different setups across practice, qualifying and race conditions collecting valuable data on the new car and tyres ahead of the 2014 season.
“It was a very beneficial test for us,” said Tan, “The car is a new machine for all of us in the Carrera Cup Asia and adapting to it has been an uphill challenge. The way to drive the car fast has changed so lets hope we can learn it quickly, stay consistent and pick up some valuable points early in the season.”

Tan’s pre-season test did not go according to plan, almost sitting out the whole first day with mechanical problems. However by 11am on day 2, the car was sorted out and things were going better as he was able to get good solid stints while simulating qualifying setups, and race simulations to test the durability of certain components of the car as well as tyre wear. “Things didn’t go exactly to plan,” continued Tan, “Though we managed to recover and set some fast lap times. To be honest, we didn’t quite link all of our best sectors on a single lap though it was encouraging that we managed to match good setups with my driving style, while changing a few things in my driving to get the most out of the all new 991 Cup car.”

On day 3, Tan managed to set a best lap of 2.09.1, which he also replicated in the afternoon, and in the morning on the last day of the PCCA pre-season test.
“We got quick laps on both days however unfortunately, we were not able to improve on the final day due to track temperatures and the overall condition of the circuit. We are happy with how things are at the moment, so let’s see what happens in the opening round.” Yuey Tan begins his race season with the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia at the Malaysian F1 GP weekend, on March 28-30.
