Yuey Tan: Our season starts in Shanghai!

Singaporean racing driver, Yuey Tan is looking forward to the the second round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2014 season, after his worst start in three seasons.

The Malaysian GP went less than average for the Dorr Havelock Racing driver, as he lost four places on the last lap of the opening round of the season. The PCCA as a support race for the Sepang F1 GP Weekend was a high profile race where Tan was hoping things would’ve gone well.

“For sure the opening round was not what we had hoped for it to be. The team, the mechanics, the engineers, everyone in marketing….everyone works so hard so Sepang was a little disappointing. Though that’s racing and sometimes things don’t go your way,” said Tan. “Though I’ve been told that we are only as good as our last race so I hope for things to go a little better in Shanghai.”

After an entertaining battle with OpenRoad Racing’s Francis Tija, Tan lost out on the final lap of their epic battle, losing four places and finishing 7th in category. Though he will be hoping for better in Shanghai after a double podium finish in 2013.

“We know it’s tough as some of our competitors are already a long way ahead in terms of points. I am of the mindset that our season will start in Shanghai and there’s no point thinking about Sepang. It’s done. Now we begin again!”

It is not unreasonable for the Singaporean driver to hope for the best at the Shanghai International Circuit, the event holding a special place in his memory as well as the experience that he has gained there over the years. Tan also has more experience in a Porsche GT3 Cup Car at the Shanghai International Circuit than any other circuit he has driven on.

“My first race was actually at the Shanghai International Circuit at the tail end of the 2008 season. During my time in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, I have raced there for six Formula One events as well as a further five non-Formula One events. So all in all, this is the 12th visit to the Shanghai International Circuit. The team knows the circuit and we have some good data from the previous races. So lets see.”

“It’s still the beginning of the season so anything can happen. There’s still a lot of time left in 2014!”
