Yuey Tan – Pivotal point of the 2014 season!

Dorr Havelock Racing driver, Yuey Tan says that the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season has reached a pivotal point in the 2014 season.

“Things are now very close in our category, Class B, as the top three in the championship hunt are a mere seven points apart!” said the thirty-two year old racing driver. “It’s been quite a battle so far this season in 2014 but the fight is not over yet for top honours in our category!”

Tan started the season with a pretty average start at Sepang, only registering a 7th place finish as he lost control of his race car in the final lap of the race. Though he made up for it at the series’ second stop of the season in Shanghai, where he registered a double podium finish during the Chinese F1 Grand Prix weekend, including a race win. The Zhuhai International Circuit only brought Tan a 4th place finish after losing a podium spot on the final lap of the race. However, things went very positively in the PCCA’s last race weekend at the Fuji Speedway in Japan, taking a 2nd and 3rd place finish in another double podium finish.

“It’s been quite an up and down hill battle in 2014! One good weekend, one bad weekend. I hope that we can break this pattern that’s going on. One thing for sure, it’s been a very wet race season and I must admit that I enjoy pushing this car very much in the dry! I hope it stays a little drier for the remainder of the session!” At current standings, category championship leader, Alif Hamdan leads the way in Class B with a total of 100 points with Hong Kong’s Francis Tjia in 2nd place with 98 points, and Yuey Tan in 3rd place with 93 points. With 20 points awarded for a win, 18 for 2nd place and 16 for 3rd, the 7 point gap between 1st and 3rd is a small margin, where just about anything could happen between now and the end of the season. John Shen is sitting in 4th place, a long way off with a total of 59 points. “At the beginning of the season, it was important that a few of us tried to break away from the pack and although there are still five races to go this season, it is good that we have a thirty-five point gap so the top three can battle it out! Alif this season has been out-of-this-world awesome and Francis I’ve battled with season after season after season and he is extremely fast and consistent! So I know it isn’t going to be easy at all, but you never know. Maybe I can win this year!”

The Porsche Carrera Cup Asia is headed for its next round to the Sepang International Circuit, a circuit that historically has favoured both Alif Hamdan and Francis Tjia. “In the past, both Alif and Francis have been very good there. For Alif, it is a circuit that he almost drives on weekly so there’s no doubt that he’s going to be ahead of us and earlier in the year, Francis managed to get me at the end. Though new race, new weekend. I will be pushing hard to try and remain competitive with these guys!” Watch Yuey Tan in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia as he heads to the Sepang International Circuit on August 15-17, 2014.
