Great to be back in the seat for 2016

Singaporean driver Yuey Tan took part in the pre-sesason test for the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia series, Asia’s Premium Motorsport Series over the continent last weekend. Taking part in his 8th Porsche Carrera Cup season, the thirty-four year old driver has taken something of a veteran role in Team Jebsen for 2016. “It’s fantastic to be back for the 2016 season and Shanghai was a great place to kick it all off! China has become something of a motorsport centre over the last five years and automobile sales in that vast country hasn’t hurt the situation either!”

During the three day test, Tan and Team Jebsen did a mixture of qualifying and full race runs calculating tyre degradation, speed and grip levels with different setups and new philosophies going into the 2016 season.

Tan also has a new teammate in Chinese up and coming driver, Cui Yue. The young driver broke into the scene with some impressive performances and quick laptimes during the pre-season test.

“As always a pre-season test helps things along. We can try some different stuff and see whether we can extract even more out of the car, even on our 3rd year with the Porsche 991 GT3 Cup!”

“It’s been interesting working with a new teammate and I got to say, my Mandarin has improved in a pretty big way as we speak different languages! It’s going to be an interesting season on that front!”

During the pre-season test, Tan completed a total of ninety laps, with Team Jebsen’s full test programme achieved over the three days. “We had a few new ideas so we decided that we should concentrate on them. You never know what you could learn if you give it a try! It’s also been good to get back into the rhythm of things as our pre-season was a little limited this year by some uncontrollable forces. Though its all good we just move on.”

The 2016 season will be a very competitive year amongst the Class B competition, with the usual suspects Vuitthikorn, Francis Tjia and Wayne Shen in the mix. Newcomer Yuan Bo is also looking in top form, taking the quickest time of the test in the category. Vuitthikorn was 2nd quickest with Tan another hundredth of a second away 3rd on the timing sheets. 4th quickest went to Bobby Buncharoen with Wayne Shen in 5th.

“There is massive depth in our category this season. Anything can happen and with Wayne 5th quickest and one of my biggest rivals in 2015, it really shows that it is anyones game and I have to focus as much as possible to beat these mega fast guys.” Watch the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2016 for the opening round of the season, at the Shanghai International Circuit April 15-17.
