Dorr racing driver Yuey Tan and Dorr Group chief, Terence Loh headed to Bangkok over the weekend to chill out and watch the Race of Champions.
“It was a great experience to go and see the Race of Champions. Special thanks goes to Chinese driver Ho-Pin Tung for helping us enjoy a fantastic weekend at the circuit.”
The Race of Champions was first organised in 1988 by former rally driver Michele Mouton and Fredrink Johnsson. The concept behind the event was to get some of the best drivers in the world from Formula 1, WRC, Moto GP, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, V8 Supercars and many other racing series. In 1999, the ROC also added the nationals cup, where drivers compete head-to-head for their individual nations.
“Was cool to see drivers from different disciplines battling out in a host of many different types of race cars. Shows that the drivers need to adjust their brake points and driving styles of the different cars constantly throughout the tournament, making adaptability a primary feature in what these drivers need to win this tournament.”
The latest edition of the Race of Champions in 2012 was held for the second time in Asia with Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand the host. The event also boasted race drivers of the highest level including Michael Schumacher, Sebestian Vettel, David Coulthard, Roman Grosjean, Ho-Pin Tung, Jamie Whincup, Mick Doohan, Benito Guerra, Tom Kristensen, Andy Priaulx, Jorge Lorenzo, Ryan Hunter-Reay and many other world superstars.
Cars that were used for the ROC 2012 event include the Audi R8 LMS, VW Scirocco, Gallardo Super Trofeo, Toyota GT86, ROC car, KTM X-Bow and the Euro Racecar.
“Let us hope that one day, we can see such a major event like the Race of Champions in Singapore! That would be sensational. Its a fantastic venue and country for the world to see on the motorsports scene once again!”
Chinese driver superstar, Ho-Pin Tung also performed admirably against a tough field of competitors, making it to the quarter-finals before behind bowed out by a split second.
Roman Grosjean came out victorious in the individual category, overhauling some of the more well known names in motorsport including fellow Formula 1 drivers Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel.
