We are targeting the podium!

Dorr McElrea Racing Team and Yuey Tan will head up to Sepang International Circuit this weekend, to contest rounds 7 & 8 of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2012.

After a mixed season that currently sees Tan 5th in category standings, the Singaporean driver heads to Sepang off his first category win in the PCCA.

“It’s been a tough season as we have not finished as many races as we would have liked. Not finishing is the worse thing you can do to get as many championship points as possible. Though the category win definitely put some points on the board in Ordos, so I hope to build on it with podium finishes in the race this weekend.”

The Sepang International Circuit is a track that Tan knows well, being the closest major circuit to his home city, Singapore. The 15 turn Formula One track was the ground of race school courses, track days, and several years of GT Racing for Tan over the course of the last decade.

“Definitely had some good moments at Sepang in the past. Though last year things could have gone better so we are hoping for the good times, this time around!”

“There are loads of fast guys to get around but we know that anything can happen in racing and once in a while, it could be to my favour. So got to run those odds! It doesn’t matter how you get them as long as you do!”

The most recent rounds of the PCCA in Ordos saw Tan start from 4th on the grid in category, slowly passing each car in front of him as his car was spot on while others were suffering with a combination of tyre wear and locked up tyres.

“We are certain that Francis, Edigio and Huang are all going to be quick. Although Wayne hasn’t qualified in the top 3 all year, he leads the championship by a mile so consistency is key! Speed isn’t everything over a race weekend and we need to remember this.”

Of the 18 car strong field in the category, Tan currently sits in 6th place in the standings with a total of 51 points. Francis Tjia currently lies a mere 9 points ahead of Tan, putting him in 3rd on the standings.

“There is still half of the season left so we will be fighting hard to get the car up the grid. 3rd in the championship is still possible so we will push for that as hard as we can. In the meantime, podiums are the objective and if achieved, will build a good foundation for us moving forward.” Check out Yuey Tan live in action at the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia over the weekend.
