Yuey Tan: We are ready for Sepang!
Dorr Havelock Racing driver, Yuey Tan believes that the team and his own preparations have put him in a strong position, coming into the opening round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia for the 2014 season.
“I am very excited to be starting the new season with the Porsche 991 GT3 Cup car,” said Tan with great positivity. “It has been a good experience working with the new car, and it will be very interesting to see where all of the drivers stand, come Friday morning practice at the opening round.”
“Sepang has been the race circuit that has been close to home in Singapore over the last decade, so we’ve done some laps around there in my time. It is a world class facility and I am always happy to go back there to go racing. It’s going to be fun I think!”
The all new Porsche 991 GT3 Carrera Cup car is a totally new racing machine for the PCCA field, being modernised substantially since the last edition of the Cup car, the Porsche 997. With a brand new on board computer designed and manufactured by Cosworth, electronic throttle and a flappy paddle gearbox which its parameters are controlled electronically, operating and understand the new 991 will require a steep learning curve for drivers and teams alike.
“There is much work to do to learn more about the car, but I do feel optimistic that we are well on our way to getting some good speed out of the car. We only drove the car for the first time two weeks ago so its still all new to us. There are some hard competitors in my category though with the resources that we have, I think the squad can be proud of how things are shaping up so far. I hope all of the boys in the team get rewarded during the race weekend for their hard work during the pre-season.”
This season, Class B in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has a high quality line up that will pit Tan against the likes of one of Malaysia’s biggest talents, Alif Hamdan, the ever dependable Open Road driver Francis Tjia, two-time GT Asia champion and two-time MME Champion Mok Weng Sun, and massively experienced racing veteran Henri Ricard, promising to deliver some fantastic racing during the 2014 season.
“Our main objective for the opening round is to be on top of understanding the car as well as we can, and making sure that we get the best out of it while ensuring reliability. It’s still early in the season so getting to the chequered flag and picking up some valuable points will be the main target. There are a lot of fast drivers in the PCCA this season, so we’ll be pushing hard.”
The opening round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia 2014 season will be held as a support race, at the Malaysian Formula One GP Weekend on March 28-30.
